Shinji Itou (伊藤 真二, Itō Shinji) is Takuru Miyashiro's loyal best friend and a vital member of the Hekiho Newspaper Club. Shinji teams up with Takuru to help solve the case of the Return of the New Generation Madness.
Personality[]
Shinji can be described as a clever, curious, kind-hearted and reliable young man who is a fan of learning anything about bizarre kind of murders and had read many killer diaries and nonfiction crime books. He would often be very interested in new discoveries regarding the Return of the New Generation Madness, and any hypotheses Takuru Miyashiro would bring in the matter.
He is a rational person, often criticizing Takuru's questionable or immature ethics and actions, worrying for his safety and keeping him in check, although he himself can sometimes act immaturely.
Plot[]
Mind-controlled to betray his best friend[]
In an unspecificed moment before the story begins, Shinji is mind-controlled by Wataru Sakuma into killing Takuru Miyashiro's little sister, Yui Tachibana, as the sixth murder of The Return of the New Generation Madness. [1]
Via mind-control, he was made to believe he loved Senri Minamisawa, the girl Takuru saw being experimented on in the basement of AH Tokyo General Hospital before the Shibuya Earthquake happened, and who Takuru abandoned to her own luck given he was powerless to do anything. [2]
As a result of this, Shinji "devised" a plan to have Takuru follow the case of The Return of the New Generation Madness, until finally arriving at the moment Shinji would enact his revenge by killing Yui, and then Takuru himself. [2]
In the Common Route, Nono Kurusu shows up and realizes Shinji is being mind-controlled, as per her own words, he never met Senri and he could have never loved her, this causes Shinji to go crazy over the contradiction of his false memories and real memories, and ultimately collapses. [2]
In Uki Yamazoe's route, however, Uki is the one who interrupts the scene, and is ultimately stabbed by Takuru Miyashiro's Di-Sword in an attempt to attack Shinji with her own Di-Sword.[3]
